How to get here

The most scenic and best way to get to Mt Sabotin is on foot. The footpaths are signposted. The views will not disappoint.

2. By bike

Mt Sabotin and the surrounding Mt Sveta Gora and Mt Škabrijel are great for cyclists. The rather steep trails are open to traffic and lined with memorials from the Great War. Please ride according to your own abilities and observe road traffic regulations. Make sure you are properly equipped, and note that going off-road is prohibited.

There are two routes:

• Solkan – Kojsko – Gonjače – Sabotin
• Solkan – Plave (cycling trail) – Vrhovlje – Sabotin

Running along the foothills of Mt Sabotin is the Plave – Nova Gorica cycling trail which is part of a network of cross-border cycling and walking trails. In Solkan, the cycling trail crosses Soča River over a footbridge. 

3. By train

You can arrive by train at the Solkan train station or Nova Gorica train station, or at the station in Plave. Timetable information. Timetable information →

4. By bus

You can hop off the bus in:

• Nova Gorica from Ljubljana, Sežana, Tolmin – at the central bus station. Timetables →
• Solkan by free city bus from Nova Gorica, Šempeter pri Gorici or Vrtojba. Timetables →
• Goriška Brda (Podsabotin, Kojsko, Gonjače) and go on foot to Mt Sabotin. Timetables →

5. By car

Consider using the car as your final option to reach the summit of Sabotin. Opting for alternatives way to get there will allow you to fully take in the beauty and minimize environmental impact.

The turning for Sabotin is at Vrhovlje in Goriška Brda, from the direction of:

• Nova Gorica: Solkan – Podsabotin – Kojsko – Gonjače – Sabotin
• Dolina Soče: Plave – Vrhovlje – Sabotin
• Goriška Brda: Dobrovo – Šmartno – Gonjače – Sabotin

NOTE: The road leading to Sabotin via Podsabotin (past the agritourism farm Pri Bregarju) suggested by Google Maps is an unpaved road and unsuitable for motor vehicles.

Parking:

• There is a small car park at the very top, which can be full at times. Accessible by bus;
• by the road bridge in Solkan;
• at the Kayak Centre in Solkan;
• by the hunting lodge on Mt Sabotin.
