Straddling two countries and with a view of the Adriatic Sea and the Alps, the mighty Mt Sabotin, though steeped in a sombre past, nowadays boasts astonishing biodiversity as it casts its shadow over the Soča River. Long gone are the days of thundering noise and ravages of the First World War, and today, Mt Sabotin is again brimming with life. A symbol of peace, it stands as a testament to the futility of war and the value of living in non-violent times.
Penetrated by a system of caverns and trenches, Mt Sabotin (609 m) acts as an open-air museum and was recently enhanced by the addition of the multimedia Visitor Centre operating as part of the Sabotin – Peace Park. Guests can tour it solo or on guided tours. A transnational Peace Park and a stop on the Walk of Peace from the Alps to the Adriatic it points out the futility of war and promotes harmony between nations.
Mt Sabotin is a popular destination for hikers, cyclists and day-trippers, boasting rich natural and cultural heritage, as well as offering spectacular views in all cardinal directions.
